10 Facts for 10 Days


 
 
1.       Boca Chica is 19 miles from Santo Domingo, the capital city of the DR.

2.       The city was founded by a sugar plantation owner, Juan Bautista Vincini Burgos.

3.       Hotel Hamaca was built by dictator, Trujillo in the 1950s and was reopened in the 90s.

4.       Boca Chica’s beaches have white sand and warm shallow water. The lagoon is protected by coral reefs.

5.       Boca Chica has 2 islands and 2 marinas.

6.       Santo Domingo and the surrounding area were visited several times by Columbus. He built many settlements in the region.

7.       Today in Boca Chica, it is 90 degrees (but feels like 97!) and rainy!

8.       Boca Chica has the highest rates of child slavery and prostitution... 88% of “clients” are tourists.

9.       Caminante Educational Project has been working in Boca Chica since 1994.

10.   The Santo Domingo and Boca Chica areas have Spanish colonial architecture and plenty of history.
